Does the computer system automatically void the remainder of your flight or do they reserve the right to, and practically don't do it?

"Now if you have no luggage there's not much that Continental can do to you if you get off in CLE, but if you do have luggage it's going to PIT...
You might be able to avoid this the way security works now, where you bring your luggage yourself to be inspected, by taring off their tag and putting the handwritten ones (you know the ones they use when you ask them to put something on the bottom of the plane after your through security) if you can get a hold of them (not that there is anything special about them besides some number I doubt they use) . And if you fly EL AL then I think they will take you baggage off the plane if you don't get on the flight, but I'm not sure if that is their policy also for domestic flights.

Very few airports still do this, off hand i only know of LGA although I'm sure there are others. CLE and LAX definitely don't have you bring it to security.

Well my sister just flew (Monday) from LAX on American and they made her bring her luggage to the security. However I flew Transair two months back from LAX and they didn't make me bring it myself. I also flew from JFK to LAX on United 2 weeks ago and they didn't make me do it either.

This will work if you are going over the border. For example I will be flying lga - toronto - tlv - back to TO and not taking the last leg and still having my luggage with me...
